How is Vedic Meditation different from other types of meditation?

Other styles of meditation involve concentration or contemplation, which keep the mind active. Vedic Meditation uses a mantra to settle the mind naturally, optimising brain function and allowing deep physical rest — even deeper than sleep.

What about mindfulness — how is this different?

Mindfulness requires effort and concentration to stay present. Vedic Meditation is effortless — you silently repeat a personalised mantra and your mind naturally settles to a state of deep inner calm. Present-moment awareness is an outcome of regular meditation, not something you have to force.

Is this Transcendental Meditation?

Our teachers were trained in the same Vedic tradition but teach independently. Jillian Lavender and Michael Miller are independent teachers of Vedic Meditation and are not affiliated with the TM organisations or any other organisation.

What's the structure of the course?

The course runs over four days, with two-hour sessions each day. Group courses typically run Friday to Monday. You're meditating from the very first day, and changes happen straight away. Private courses are also available to fit your schedule.

Where do you teach?

Introductory talks are held online via Zoom. The full meditation courses are taught in-person at venues in central Manhattan. Full addresses are provided when you sign up.

How long before I start feeling benefits?

I can't stop thinking — how will I do this?

You don't need to stop thinking. The mantra naturally guides your mind to quieter states without requiring any effort. Vedic Meditation works with the busy mind rather than trying to force it into submission.

Do I have to chant or sit in strange yoga positions?

No chanting. You simply sit in a comfortable chair with your eyes closed. There are no special positions, robes, or rituals.

Is this religious?

No. The practice is a simple mental technique, free of dogma or belief. Practitioners from all major religions have learned successfully.

Once I've learned, what kind of support do I get?
