Demands are demanding – they ask us to adapt
Demands are being made of us all the time. The key to success is to adapt to these changing expectations with grace and ease.
A demand is simply a change in expectation. Say you’re waiting for the train which is due to arrive in five minutes. Then you learn it has been cancelled and the next one is not due for another hour. That’s a change in expectation and it requires you to adapt.
And demands have an upside. When a demand is made of you, there’s a chance to interact with it, experience success, and then the satisfaction and happiness that comes from that. Successful people are those who are able to adapt to many demands, and to do so frictionlessly.
Life gets difficult when you’re not able to adapt. When your adaptation ability is low you mal-adapt, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction and as a result you get stressed.
So what’s the key to increasing your adaptability?
Think of adaptation energy as being like a bank balance. The more you have, the more you can draw down on in times of need. Adaptation energy lies between you and the demand. When your bank balance of adaptation energy is high you can easily draw down when life asks you to change. When you’re in overdraft, and there’s no adaptation energy to draw down upon, mal-adaptation occurs and you end up getting stressed.
This is where Vedic Meditation is key. Every time you close the eyes and rest the nervous system deeply, you top up your ‘bank balance’ of adaptation energy so it’s constantly overflowing. Demands are made of you and you’re able to respond appropriately, without being thrown off balance and getting stressed.
